Recalcitrant (Ephemeral)/Hydrophilic Seed Exchange for Members
This Recalcitrant (Ephemeral) Seed Exchange is available to Members Only. You must be logged in to access the list.
Are there some plants you love but their seeds won’t germinate for you?
The Situation: These seeds may be recalcitrant, or hydrophilic. Many of our spring ephemeral woodland plants fall in this group. Their viability is very short so they must be planted immediately when the seeds ripen, even if germination is not till the following year. Drying out means seed death. Seed Exchanges can often take too long for this group of seeds, so some hydrophilic seeds are not accepted.
The Solution: Obtain seeds in the late spring and early summer and plant them immediately.
